The exam must be done by a panel physician approved by IRCC. Your own doctor can't do it. Results go straight to IRCC, not to you, and are usually valid for twelve months.

Why it's required: Nearly every applicant and accompanying family member needs one. A temporary public policy exempts some people already in Canada who had a low-risk exam in the last five years.
